Coast Guard save Chinese man from drowning

Sri Lanka Coast Guard officers rescued a Chinese man from drowning at Mirissa Beach on Saturday. IT engineer R. Zhow Pei, 31, had been swimming with a group of friends when he had got caught in the current. The two officers on duty rescued him and took him ashore.

The total number of lives saved by Coast Guard lifeguards since the establishment of the lifesaving unit is now 88. This includes 16 foreigners.

Coast Guard personnel are deployed in Galle Face, Wellawatta, Mt. Lavinia, Balapitiya, Panadura, Mirissa, Polhena and Nilaweli. The Sri Lanka Coast Guard is in the process of establishing lifesaving posts in several other locations.
