Admin of all NTSs under two DGs

Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena ordered Health Ministry Secretary Dr. Nihal Jayasinghe to hand over the administration of all Nurses Training Schools (NTS) in Sri Lanka to two deputy Director Generals of the Health Ministry.

Minister Sirisena made this decision after finding out that the administration of the majority of NTSs is weak. He found an extremely dirty kitchen at the Hambantota NTS during a recent inspection tour, a Health Ministry spokesman said.

The spokesman said NTSs are administrated by directors of main state hospitals. "The administration of the majority of NTSs are not satisfactory and only a few NTSs are managed well. There are 18 NTSs in Sri Lanka which train nurses for state hospitals. There is a Principal for each NTS. The minister stated that if Hospital Directors visit NTSs at least once a month, there will not be dirty kitchens, toilets and bathrooms at NTSs," he said.
