Stronger measures to ensure enforcement of HRC orders

Amendments would be introduced to the Human Rights Commission of Sri
Lanka Act shortly to strengthen the legal provisions of the Commission,
enabling it to take effective action in the event of Human Rights
violations, Human Rights Commission chairman Retired Supreme Court Judge
Priyantha Perera said.
Addressing a special press conference at the Commission’s head office
yesterday, the chairman said the amendments would grant sanction to the
Commission to report to the High Court in the event of a refusal or
breach of the Commission’s recommendations given to a public servant or
official.
