Opposition political parties undermining education sector - SLITU
Ishara Mudugamuwa
Education has become a main political slogan of Opposition political
parties. They are spreading false information that the country's
education sector has collapsed, Sri Lanka Independent Teachers' Union
(SLITU) president Wasantha Hadapangoda said adding that this was being
done for pure political gain.
Addressing the media at the SLFP headquarters yesterday, the SLITU
President said there was no problem in country's education system, but
the main Opposition party and some other political parties are trying to
create problems in the education sector. "Some political parties are
trying to create illusions in relation to the education sector to
deceive both parents and students for political advantage.
These acts damage the international reputation of Sri Lanka's
education system." said Hadapangoda.
She also said that two teachers' unions wanted to cancel the question
papers of the Grade-5 scholarship examination held recently claiming
that the scholarship examination papers have been leaked out. But no one
could prove this with evidence.
"The government cannot solve the prevailing problems in the country's
education sector by changing ministers or secretaries.
There is a bureaucratic mafia behind the prevailing problems in
education sector.
Therefore, it is necessary to take immediate action against this
mafia." she said.
The SLITU has requested the relevant authorities to take legal action
against those who are spreading false information.
SLITU Secretary Nishshanka Fernando, All Sri Lanka Graduate Teachers'
Union Secretary E.M.J.S. de Saram and other officers were present.
