Navy recover large haul of ammunition

The Navy had recovered a large haul of ammunition and anti-personnel mines hidden in Kilinochchi and Kayakkuli beach recently. According to the SL Navy sources Naval troops attached to the SLNS Buwaneka of the North-central Naval Command found this ammunition in a jungle at Kirachchi in Kilinochchi and SLNS Barana of the North Western Naval Command had unearthed 35 anti-personnel mines hidden in Kayakkuli Beach.

These Naval troops found six 12.7 x 108mm Ammo (Corroded),312 7.62 x 54mm Ammo (Corroded),153 7.62 x 39 mm Ammo (Corroded),five 60mm HE Mortar Grenades (Usable) and three 60 mm Mortar Fuse (Usable) in Kilinochchi and 35 anti-personnel mines in Kayakkuli beach.

Meanwhile, the Army recovered a 60 mm mortar bomb and a hand grenade on Sunday in their search and clear operations conducted in Kondavil general area. In addition, they recovered a 81 mm mortar bomb from Arasankulam area.

Demining groups recovered one hundred and five anti personnel mines and one 60 mm mortar bomb from Kasawakpuliyakulam,Vilathikulam, Kiduppidittakulam, Kokkutuduwai and Palmudai on Sunday.
