STF seize illicit cigarettes, liquor

The Special Task Force (STF) yesterday arrested a person with 95,400 cartons of illegally imported cigarettes worth over Rs 2 million at the Kollupitiya Public Market complex yesterday.

The suspect from Dalugama , Kelaniya was handed over to Kollupitiya Police for further investigations. Meanwhile, two persons were arrested with 12 grammes of heroin in Dehiwala and Gampaha by the STF on the same day.

The Special Weapons and Tactics Unit on the direction of SP G J Sylvester arrested the first suspect near the Dehiwala railway station and seized a three wheeler as well.

The second suspect was nabbed at Keppetipola juncion, Gampaha.

The suspects were handed over to the Police Anti- Narcotics Bureau for further investigations. The STF also arrested nine suspects and seized 503 bottles of illicit liquor after they raided illicit liquor breweries in Anuradhapura, Negombo, Galle, Ratnapura, Siyambalanduwa, Kosgoda, Pitigala and Mawathagama. YG
