Fire destroys section of Mihintale Asokapura teak reservation
A section of the Mihintale Asokapura teak reservation in extent of
nearly 25 acres was destroyed in a fire on Monday afternoon.
This included a five acre plant nursery as well.
The fire erupted around 5pm and Mihintale Range Office officers with
officers of the District Forest Office, Anuradhapura put out the fire
after a strenuous effort which lasted for a bout five hours.
Forest officials who did not rule out an act of sabotage by vandals,
said dry weather and high winds caused the fire to spread over a large
area of the reservation.
