Minister Premajayantha said some people said various things regarding
the shut down. "Some media reports claimed that the reason behind the
major shut down was due to the breakdown of three machines in the
premises. Some newspapers reported it was due to the lack of oil in the
country," said the minister.
He added that the refinery was shut down as it was undergoing
maintenance activities since July 2.
"We do regular maintenance. About 1,100 workers of the Petroleum
Corporation engage in maintenance activities while another 100 temporary
workers are on daily payments," said the minister. He said these
temporary workers will be added to the permanent staff after discussing
with the management. He added that the government has to spend Rs 700
million for the maintenance activities. |
