Russia will develop nano technology in SL
The outgoing ambassador of Russia to Sri Lanka Vladimir P. Mikahaylov,
made a farewell call on Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne at Visumpaya.

He said it was Russia's policy to give continued support for the
future development programmes of Sri Lanka.
He said: "Sri Lanka was on an accelerated development drive and
during his tenure he strengthened diplomatic relations between the two
countries.
"Russia is prepared to extend support to develop Nano technology in
Sri Lanka.
"Russia will help Sri Lanka to use satellite technology for
streamlining activities related to research, tourism, telecommunication
and investment promotion", he said.
The ambassador said, "Though the period I spent in Sri Lanka was
short, the cooperation received from the President and the Prime
Minister was remarkable".
He said, "Trade between the two countries has increased 80 % in the
last five years and since the commencement of direct flights between
Colombo and Moscow tourist arrivals from Moscow increased by 60 % in
2011, nearly 14,000 Russian tourists visited Sri Lanka".
The Prime Minister discussed the possibility of greater cooperation
in the areas of science and technology, particularly the development of
Nano technology and outer space technology.
Prime Minister's Private Secretary, Anuradha Jayaratne, Prime
Minister's Advisor, Mahinda Bandusena, officials of the Prime Minister's
office and External Affairs Ministry were present on the occasion. |
