Clearance certificate only from police

The clearance certificate, issued by the Police to go abroad for studies, seeking of citizenship in a foreign country or foreign tours can be obtained only from Police Clearance Unit, 331, Olocot Mawatha, Colombo 11, said Police Media spokesman SP Ajith Rohana.

The public are requested not to fall prey to individuals or groups posing as agents or brokers to issue police clearance certificate, he added. The police clearance certificate is issued to an applicant by the Police Clearance Unit after they complete the application issued by the Police Clearance Unit.

Applications can also be down loaded from the Police website, www.police.lk.

He said the issuance of the police clearance certificate will be on * The application form received form Police Clearance Unit should be perfectly and accurately filled in and hand over at the counter. The fee for one applicant is Rs 500, paid when submitting the application. * If applied from a foreign country or through respective diplomatic offices ( high commissions or ambassadors ) the fee is a sum equivalent to Sri Lanka Rs 1,000. The applicants should also take into note to fill in the information such as full name as mentioned in the national ID, the ID No, passport No accurately.

They are also requested to follow the instructions when completing bio data. The applicants are also requested to mention clearly the high commission or the ambassador’s address to which the clearance certificate should be posted.

The photo stat copies should be clear and readable. A clearance certificate is issued only for the period of stay in Sri Lanka , so the accurate dates are important. The clearance certificated can also be received via post by submitting an envelope ( 4 x 9 ) with a Rs 30 stamp.

The duration to issued a clearance certificate is 21 working day. If it gets delay , the application is being examined due to non accuracy. The applicant can get a report of the process of their certificate by sending an SMS to 1919 by typing PLC ( space ) CRT ( space ) Application number. Information can also be obtained from by calling the OIC, Clearance Unit, 0112439185, 86 and 88. or fax to 0112438187 ASP Clearance Unit on 0112326022
