Rambuttan seller clubbed to death

A rambuttan seller was allegedly clubbed to death by another at a lorry park in Digana.

H Ariyadasa, 45, of Rajawella, Digana died after being allegedly clubbed to death following an argument overt selling rambuttan.

Teldeniya Police arrested the suspect and produced him before the Teldeniya magistrate yesterday.


Wanted suspects netted

Three suspects wanted by the Police in connection with nine crimes were arrested at Makumbura junction, Kottawa on Thursday by the Western Province Intelligence Division.

Police reported the suspects had stolen motorcycles and three wheelers and had also been involved in snatching gold chains in Maharagama, Kahathuduwa, Horana and Homagama.

Police took into custody two stolen motorcycles, three gold chains and receipts of pawned jewellery from the suspects' possession. They were produced before the Kaduwela magistrate yesterday.


Housemaid arrested

Ganemulla Police arrested a woman who allegedly stole jewellery worth Rs 515,000 from a house.

She was working as a maid in the house. The stolen jewellery was found in her possession.

She was produced before the Gampaha magistrate yesterday.


Arrested with brass Buddha statue

The Tangalle Divisional Crime Investigation Unit arrested a man with a brass Buddha statue 4.8cms in height. The suspect, a resident of Tangalle was produced before the Walasmulla magistrate yesterday.

Weeraketiya Police are investigating.


Six arrested for damaging bus

Six suspects who damaged an SLCTB bus at Hanwella were arrested by the Police.

The incident occurred when the suspects, under the influence of liquor, stopped the bus with passengers plying from Mattakkuliya to Avissawella in Hanwella and damaged it.

The suspects were produced before the Avissawella magistrate yesterday.


Houses damaged in fire

Seven houses were damaged in a fire that engulfed a row of wooden houses on Nuge Road, Peliyagoda on Thursday night.

The Fire Brigade and Peliyagoda Police extinguished the fire.

No one was injured.

Investigations are continuing.


Youth missing at sea

Dikwella Police and the Navy launched a search operation to find an 18-year-old who went missing while bathing at Pihibiya beach in Dikwella on Thursday. The victim, K P S Yapa is a resident of Kekanadura.
