Since end of war:
Cadet training intensified in North
The National Cadet Corps (NCC) has provided training for over 1500
students in the Northern Province during the last two to three years,
NCC Director Major General Gamini Jayasundara said.
With the end of the war the NCC established three cadet battalions in
Jaffna, Vavuniya and Trincomalee to extend cadet activities in the
North, he said.
Major General Jayasundara was addressing the Passing Out parade of
the Western Band Assessment Camp at the NCC training centre, Rantembe.
He said: “The NCC launched this programme under the guidance of
Defence and Urban Development Ministry Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.
Over 1500 students in Jaffna,Trincomalee and Vavuniya have completed the
cadet training at the National Cadet Training Centre in Rantembe” he
St.Patrick’s College and St.John’s College, Jaffna participated in
Royal College, Colombo secured first place in the boys’ section while
Dharmaraja College, Kandy and Nalanda College, Colombo won the second
and third places respectively.
The first place in the girls’ section was secured by Kegalle Balika
Vidyalaya and second and third places went to Dharmashoka College,
Ambalangoda and Newstead College, Negombo.
