Youth drowned in Mahaweli
A person, 21, drowned while bathing in the Mahaweli Ganga in
Moragahakanda on Thursday.
Investigations revealed the victim who was bathing in the river with
his colleagues from a private company attached to the Mahaweli Project
disappeared in the water.
Naula police found his body the next day.
The victim, Pushpakumara Kodikara was a resident of Warakapitiya,
Denipitiya, police reported.
Argument ends in death
A person died and two others were injured when they were attacked
with swords and knives at the Kepumgoda beach in Negombo. The Negombo
Police arrested two suspects and launched a search operation to arrest
another two suspects.
The incident occurred when the victim, N P H Krishantha Perera, 44,
of Kanuwana, Ja-Ela was on a picnic with his family and relations at the
Kepumgoda beach on July 8 .
Police reported that an argument between the victim and the suspects
led to the mishap. The injured are being treated at the Ragama Hospital.
The suspects have been remanded until July 19 by the Negombo magistrate.
Husband arrested over wife’s death
Bingiriya police arrested a man in connection with the death of his
wife in Tharana, Udawela. Investigations revealed the suspect had
allegedly assaulted his wife, P M Wajira Jayanthimala, 40, of Udawela
and dumped her in a well.
The post mortem was held at the Kulyapitiya Hospital morgue.
Hettipola magistrate remanded the suspect until July 26. Bingiriya
Police are investigating.
Mysterious death of woman
A woman, found with head injuries lying in front of a temple in
Piliyandala succumbed to her injuries while being treated at the Colombo
National Hospital. Police media sources revealed that the people in the
vicinity of the temple had admitted her to the Piliyandala Hospital from
where she was transferred to the Colombo National Hospital.
Investigations revealed that she died after being unconscious for
several days. According to the post mortem, L Premawathi, 50, of
Kolamulla died due to severe bleeding of the head injury. Piliyandala
police are investigating.
A person attacked by an elephant succumbed to his injuries on
admission to the Haputale Hospital on Saturday. A Mohammed Siddik, 38,
Welimada was attacked while walking in the Koslanda Estate, police said.
