Minister warns:

Legal action against illegal constructions

Health Minister Maitripala Sirisena decided to take legal action against persons who acquired lands owned by Kandy Teaching Hospital illegally and put up buildings in those premises.

According to a Health Ministry spokesman the government is developing the Kandy Hospital as the second National Hospital of the country.

The hospital has a 50 acre land. But at present there are only 20 acres.

This is the main problem affecting the development activities of the hospital.

The Kandy Teaching Hospital needs more buildings to house several units which are essential to develop as a national hospital. the minister said there are two alternatives for this matter.

The first is to build hospital buildings in another land and the second to take back the lands from the persons who built establishments in the hospital premises illegally.

Minister Sirisena said that the assistance of the Central Provincial Council is necessary to solve this matter and he hopes that the CPC will help in finding a better answer.
