Ministry Secretaries should not be confined to their seats -
President
President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday said new ministry Secretaries
must manage institutions under the ministries in an efficient and
exemplary manner to promote productivity.
The President said ministry Secretaries should have a thorough
knowledge of the institutions under their purview, visit the
institutions and look into their activities personally.
Addressing the newly appointed Secretaries after presenting
appointment letters, President Rajapaksa said ministry Secretaries
cannot be confined to their seats. “A ministry Secretary is the Head of
all institutions under the particular ministry and should make his/her
presence felt at the progress review meeting held under the patronage of
the minister,” he added.
President Rajapaksa said: “Ministry Secretaries should have a proper
understanding of the grievances of the public.
“They should work closely with the respective minister and the
officials to provide a better service to the public by solving their
problems,” he said.
He wished the new ministry secretaries would provide their maximum
service to the people and the country at large while safeguarding
government policies. Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga,
Finance Ministry Secretary P.B. Jayasundera, Cabinet Secretary Sumith
Abeysinghe, Chief of Presidential Staff Gamini Senarath were also
present. |
