More facilities at Vavuniya general hospital

The Vavuniya general hospital is well equipped to treat any patient
without having to transfer them to another hospital, Vavuniya General
Hospital sources said.
A State of the Art general hospital has been constructed at Vavuniya
by the government investing millions in public funds and with the
assistance of several private institutions, fulfilling a long felt need
in the district.
The Vavuniya hospital now consists of various units, available in
other major hospitals, such as medical, surgical, paediatric, blood
bank, operation theatre, psychiatric, X-ray unit, laboratory,
gynaecology, EU, ICU, SCBU, ENT, EYE and mortuary. Besides many clinical
facilities are available at the hospital including, medical, ante-natal,
baby, family planning, dental, surgical,diabetic, rheumatic, eye, ENT,
STD, psychiatric, orthopaedic and so on.
A specialized orthopaedic surgery unit was designed and built by the
Medicines Sans Frontiers of Holland at a cost of Rs 23 million.
The hospital wards have been reconstructed adding more beds and
facilities. Under the ward reconstruction programme, the Elective
reconstructed Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation ward was opened by
Northern Province Governor GA Chandrasiri.
This ward was reconstructed at a cost of Rs eight million.
