Pulimood memorial oration

The annual Susan George Pulimood Memorial Oration of Visakha Vidyalaya will be held on July 23 at 5.15 pm at the Jeremias Dias Hall of the school.

The oration titled Marvels of Modern Medicine, will be delivered by Prof Gita Fernando. She is the Sri Jayawardenapura University Medical Sciences Faculty Founder Professor of Pharmacology and Head of Pharmacology, Health Ministry Drugs Evaluation sub-committee (DESC) Secretary and SLMA Drugs Committee Chairperson.


Workshop

The Sri Lanka Foundation Institute organised workshops on good governance and leadership, occupation and stress management, professionalism and improving the quality of work for Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment managers recently.

The workshops were attended by about 100 participants from the public and private sectors. The inaugural address was delivered by Foundation Institute chairman Prof Ranjith Bandara.


Seminar

A Seminar on Poverty Alleviation jointly organized by the Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute for International Relations and Strategic Studies (LKIIRSS), Colombo and the Research and Information System for Developing Countries (RIS), New Delhi will be held at the Kadirgamar Institute, 24 Horton Place, Colombo 7, July 12 from 10 am to 6 pm. The keynote address will be delivered by Indian Minister of Rural Development and Drinking Water and Sanitation Jairam Ramesh. The seminar will be chaired by Economic Devlopment Minister Basil Rajapaksa and External Affairs Minister Prof. G.L.Peiris as the Chairman of the LKIIRSS will also address the seminar.


Goods Galore

The market extravaganza ‘Goods Galore’ organised by the Primary Section of Sujatha Vidyalaya, Nugegoda will be held today at the school premises.


Vehicle gutted

A van travelling from Galle to Colombo on the Southern Expressway was gutted around 6.20 am yesterday. The driver and another person in the van escaped without injuries.

A short circuit in the van had triggered the ignition.

The incident occurred at the 12.6 km post in Bandaragama.


Brothel owner bailed out

A woman arrested for operating a brothel in Kuliyapitiya was bailed out on Rs 50,000 by the Kuliyapitiya magistrate. Two other women caught with the suspect were remanded until July 16.


Rathnawali Walk

The Rathnawali Walk 2012 organised by the Old Girls' Association of Rathnawali Balika Vidyalaya will be held on July 14. The walk will commence from the school premises at 7.30am.


Kidney patient seeks help

K A Dayananda of No 205/5 Pahala Karagahamona, Kadawatha has been diagnosed with kidney failure and Consultant Nepthrologist Dr S M Seneviratne has recommended him an urgent kidney transplant.
