Applications for temporary IDs accepted till Aug 10

The Election Secretariat would accept applications for temporary
identity cards for the forthcoming Provincial Council Elections until
August 20, Additional Election Commissioner R M A L Ratnayake told the
Daily News yesterday.
He said that the Secretariat commenced issuing temporary ID cards
this week with the coordination of Grama Niladari Officers. He said that
details of the people without valid ID cards in Sabaragamuwa, Eastern
and North Central Provinces is now being collected through Grama
Niladari officers.
He also noted that temporary IDs issued in 2010 and 2011 would be
valid even for the upcoming Provincial Council Elections.
He said that the temporary ID is valid for three years. He requested
the people without a valid identity card to forward their applications
through the respective Grama Niladari officer before the deadline.
He said that in addition to the NIC, a valid driving license,
passport, pension identity card, senior citizens identity card or clergy
identity card which is issued by the Buddhasasana and Religious Affairs
Ministry are also valid for the forthcoming elections.
