KOICA supports Bingiriya farmers
The launching ceremony of Bingiriya Development Foundation - Training
Manual for Anthurium and Cut Foliage, written by Dr Yoon, Jang Won under
the Bingiriya Agriculture Export Zone Project was held at the Export
Development Board (EDB) recently.
EDB Director General Sujatha Weerakoon, other EDB officials, KOICA
Resident Representative Cho, Sang-woo, Dr. Yoon, Jang Won and KOICA
staffs attended the ceremony.
As part of the the World Friends Korea (WFK) Advisors Programme under
KOICA's technical cooperation activities, Dr. Yoon since arriving in Sri
Lanka in June 2010 had been providing consultations in the sector of
agriculture and floriculture to EDB by sharing his experiences in
farming technology and rural development in Korea with especially
farmers in the Bingiriya area. He also made efforts to empower local
women's capacities on flower gardening to develop high quality export
flower products and promote local farmers' income.
As a final outcome of his two year long service to EDB, this manual
was designed to improve practical skills to increase agriculture
productivity and to build capacities of local farmers for income
generation. Through Dr. Yoon's two year service as an expert of KOICA's
WFK Advisors Programme, KOICA has pledged support to EDB's efforts to
develop the first export zone in Bingiriya aiming at local farmers'
income generation in Sri Lanka. |
