Dog, Tiger out

The use of Dog and Tiger as political party symbols will not be allowed in the future, Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya said. The Commissioner yesterday said the decision had been taken due to requests and other matters.

Election authorities will also not allow the use of traditional Sri Lankan Sesatha, Nelum flower(Lotus), Lion, Hammer and Sickle and pair of swords as political party symbols.

The number of symbols approved for political parties stands at 135, of which 64 have already been assigned to political groups.
