Polls chief to political parties:

'Follow nomination guidelines, avoid rejection'

Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya yesterday urged political parties to pay special attention to nomination paper guidelines issued by his office to prevent them from being rejected.

Election authorities have also added a new rule at the forthcoming PC polls for Eastern, North Central and Sabaragamuwa, which says that nomination papers that are not handed over with a copy of the original will be rejected .

The nominations will be accepted from July 12, 2012 and ends at noon on July 19.

The Commissioner said he will make political parties aware on the guidelines at a meeting with them today.
