Mandra Resort to meet growing demand

The Mandara Resort in Mirrisa, Weligama is looking at acquiring more land and expanding their property to meet the growing demands.

This four star standard boutique hotel with ultra luxury facilities was built four years ago by Managing Director, Rosan Renaissance group, Sagara Palihawardane, also owns and operates, the five star, 52 room, Rosan Kataragama.

Mandara Renaissance in Weligama offers four rooms attached with plunge pools, eight suite type deluxe rooms with jaqusies, four penthouse rooms and four standard rooms.

Manager of the Mandara Resort, Conrad Fonseka said they recently opened their own Spa.

The hotel has three wings with one section having three stories with the Penthouse and suite type deluxe rooms with jaqusies being built in it.

The other two wings are two storied having four plunge pools and four standard rooms. One of the key features of the hotel is the huge room which has been specially designed in where Spa treatment could be taken in the room.

"We are also looking at introducing a butler service to this section soon," he said.

The large swimming pool with shallow end for kids and fibre optic lighting is another major attraction of the hotel in addition to the large and well laid garden adjoining the beach. "We also have Paddle boat for water sport lovers," he said.

He said that due to its quite surrounding with the river and sea on either side is well patronized by Honeymooners both locally and internationally.

The market for the hotel is French, Russian and UK tourists and their local clientele comprise of around 30%. "We are offering nearly a 50% discount for locals, until the end of this month and a full board package for locals under this offer would be less that US $ 95."

Whale watching is very popular in the area and the hotel organizes excursions to various attraction places such as, Madoul Duwa, Galle and Matara Fort and several other places of interest. "We also have built a new Gym and have facilities for indoor and outdoor sports," he said. Rooms also have Internet connection, TV, CD/ DVD player, IDD telephone, writing desk and chair, and luggage rack. Additional fittings, include hair dryer, refrigerator, mini-bar, and safety lockers in every room.

"With the opening of the highway a guest from Colombo could travel to the hotel in less than two hours and with the highway to be extended to Marata, the travel time from Colombo would be even quicker," Assistant Manger of the Hotel, Bernard De Silva said.

Executive Chef, O. K. W. Karunaratne with over 25 years experience in the industry with overseas training has a 15 member team and is geared to serve any local and international dish.

Rosan Renaissance group also participates in all major travel exhibitions, such as the ITB, WTM, ATM and other major events and due to these marketing efforts, the hotel maintains over 50% occupancy throughout the year.
