Suspect arrested with hooch in house

Special Task Force personnel arrested a man with 46 bottles of liquor hidden in his house at Keenagahawila, Avissawella last week.

The suspect aged 35 was arrested following a tip-off. IP Thushara de Silva and a special team carried out the raid.

The suspect was handed over to the Avissawella Police.

Arrested for counterfeit note printing

Two men who had printed counterfeit notes were remanded until July 9 by the Vavuniya magistrate.

Police found the counterfeit note printing location in Vavuniya, Sidampuram after questioning a man wanted for a robbery.

Police arrested the other person and seized a stock of goods used for counterfeit note printing.

Sentenced for committing matricide

A suspect who killed his mother by attacking her with an iron bar was sentenced to 20 years' rigorous imprisonment by the Polonnaruwa magistrate's court on Tuesday.

Magistrate Lalith Ekanayaka also fined the man Rs.10,000.

The murder had taken place in March 2007 in Polonnaruwa.
