Court issues summons on chairman, Director Board

Panadura Magistrate R S A Dissanayaka, issued summons on the chairman and the Board of Directors of the State Plantations Corporation to appear before Court on July 26, 2012.

The summons were issued sequel to a case filed by the Asst Commissioner of Labour, Panadura, stating that the Panadura Labour Tribunal had directed the chairman of the Plantations Corporation to pay a sum of Rupees twelve lakhs fifty six thousand and seven hundred and sixty five as compensation to the complainants in a Labour Tribunal case decided by the Labour Tribunal. The Labour Tribunal President's order had not been honoured and not carried out by the State Plantations Corporation.

The chairman and the Board of Directors have committed an offence punishable under the Ceylon Penal Code.
