Errant Sathosa traders beware

Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) will take legal action against 40 errant Lanka Sathosa traders nabbed during a Flying Squad raid yesterday.

"We commenced raids to nab errant Sathosa traders engaged in unfair trade practices, following complaints of consumers, on the instructions of Co-operatives and Internal Trade Minister Johnston Fernando," CAA chairman Rumi Marzook said.

"Most Sathosa traders fleeced consumers by failing to display the prices of consumer items. Raids were carried out to restore consumer trust on public institutions," Marzook said.

Minister Fernando directed the CAA chairman to raid Sathosa outlets islandwide to nab errant traders who breach consumer protection laws.

"Public institutions like the Sathosa should be committed to provide branded products and services without any shortage to consumers. Both state and private institutions selling goods and services to consumers have a responsibility to provide quality services to consumers, while respecting the rules and regulations," the minister said.
