The National Cadet Corps (NCC) recently commissioned 21 Tamil
Probationary Officers of the NCC as Second Lieutenants, with the aim of
strengthening the cadet movement in the Northern area thereby giving
equal opportunities to Tamil school children.
The newly commissioned second lieutenants are cadet officers
presently serving in schools in the Mullaitivu, Vauniya and Jaffna
districts. A spokesman for the NCC told the Daily News that under the
Uthuru Wasanthaya concept of President Mahinda Rajapaksa, the NCC has
made arrangements to strengthen the cadet corps in the Northern
Province.
In terms of the arrangements the NCC commissioned these 21 Tamil
Probationary Officers as second lieutenants at a function held at the
NCC Headquarters on June 20, under the guidance of Defence and Urban
Development Ministry Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
The commissioning ceremony was held under the patronage of the
National Cadet Corps Director Major General Gamini Jayasundara. Seven
senior officers of the NCC were also promoted to the rank of Colonel at
the same ceremony.
