Suspended imprisonment for rape case

Panadura Provincial High Court Judge Kusala Saroganee Weerawardena sentenced an accused in an abduction and rape case to two years imprisonment suspended for ten years, and imposed a fine of Rs. 15,000.

The Judge also ordered the accused Prabath Chamila Manohara to pay one hundred thousand rupees as compensation to the complainant.

In this case, the accused pleaded guilty to the indictment of abducting an underage girl and raping her in November 2006 in the Panadura area.

State Counsel Dishna Warnakula prosecuted.
