Two dead in van, lorry collision

Two persons died and fifteen were injured in a head on collision between a van and a lorry in the Hettipola police area yesterday, Police said.

Police stated the two vehicles were heading in opposite directions. The 15 people who were injured were traveling in the van.

Nawagamuwage Peter Piyasena (61) and Randeniya Arachchige Dinesh (13), residents of Welpalla, Pannala, died in the accident.

The injured were admitted to the Hettipola and Kuliyapitiya hospitals. The lorry driver ran away from the scene of the accident without informing the Police. Hettipola Police are investigating.
