More rains expected

Occasional showers with fairly strong winds can be expected in the
Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in the Galle and Matara
districts and certain regions in the North Wetsren Province and
Hambatota districts during the next two days, said Meteorological
Department Duty Forecaster P.G.Yasaratne.
"There is also the possibility of heavy rain falls specially in the
mornings. Rainy weather will change after two or three days. The
South-west monsoon winds will be stronger occasionally, specially along
the western slopes of the hills and in the Western and Southern coastal
areas," he said. He also said the sea areas off the Western and Southern
coasts will be rough and coastal areas will be windy and with showery
conditions.
According to the Disaster Management Centre, about 636 people of 133
families in Matara, Hambantota Districts were affected by the high winds
and floods.
The Disaster Management Cetnre said about 465 people in Dikwellla,
Thihagoda, Weligama, Matara, Devinuwara, Hakmana areas and 171 families
in Tangalle and Ambalantota areas were affected from the bad weather
condition.
Nearly 15 houses in the Matara and Putlam districts were completely
destroyed and 156 houses in Matara, Hambantota and Gampaha districts
were partially damaged due to strong winds and floods. |
