Job agency owners remanded
A human smuggling racket was bared by the Colombo Fraud Investigation
Bureau (CFIB) led by its Director Superintendent of Police JAK Mark
following the arrest of 119 persons who were planning to leave the
country illegally and seven job agency owners.
On a special direction by SP Mark, a team of officers attached to the
CFIB arrested 119 job seekers who were planning to leave the country on
forged documents and seven job agency owners in Chilaw, Negombo and
Uduppuli police areas.
The suspects were produced before Colombo Chief Magistrate and
Additional District Judge Rushmi Singappuli.
The 119 job seekers were granted bail in a sum of Rs.200,000 each and
directed to appear before Court on June 8.
On an application by CFIB officials, the judge remanded the job
agency owners pending the completion of the ongoing investigations, till
June 8, 2012.
