Phoenix Industries Limited was appointment as the sole licensee in Sri Lanka to manufacture the world renowned potable water distribution systems, manufactured by Lubrizol of USA, the world leader of CPVC [Chlorinated Poly-Vinyl Chloride] pipe and fittings, who first invented it way back in 1959 (Formerly known as B F Goodrich).

In Sri Lanka for the launch was Managing Director for South Asia for Lubrizol Advanced Materials India Pvt Ltd, Timothy Earl Madden and its Head of Temprite, Manoj Dhar.

“As a company, we strive to be an essential ingredient in our customer's success through collaboration, applied science and demonstrated value,” said Madden at a press briefing held at Taj Samudra yesterday.

Today's industrial operations demand a piping system that can stand up to a wide array of extreme challenges, including highly corrosive chemicals and high temperatures. “For more than 50 years, Chlorinated Poly-Vinyl chloride (CPVC) has been offering the process industry a superior, corrosion-resistant piping alternative. This high performance material has proven, through solid field performance, as well as extensive third-party testing, that it possesses a unique combination of chemical resistance, mechanical strength and excellent life-cycle economics, to offer a highly attractive option for the Construction Industry,” he added.

Lubrizol Corporation, founded in 1928 and headquartered in Ohio USA, is leading the industry with CPVC technology and product innovations. The company's 2011 revenue stood at US $6.1 billion, with a total staff strength of 7000 worldwide. Lubrizol's products are sold to more than 100 countries with Sri Lanka being the latest addition.

Dhar said that in Sri Lanka, as in other developing nations, the market was exclusively dominated by other polymers, which had replaced the old iron and clay pipes in the 1970s.' However increasingly both customers as well as plumbers are looking for smarter plumbing solutions and we are here to show them the way'.

Enumerating the advantages of using FlowGuard [ CPVC] as compared to other polymers, Dhar said that FlowGuard could withstand temperatures greater than uPVC, thus contributing towards its popularity for water piping systems both in residential as well as commercial construction. “It is also lead free and therefore safer, does not propagate fire and is often preferred for its straight professional appearance. Its simple solvent cement joining system requires only a few inexpensive cutting tools and yields a reliable leak free joint within a matter of minutes. He said FlowGuard CPVC performs well with regard to corrosion resistance.'The material will never pit, scale or corrode, regardless of the pH or chlorine levels of the water. That means a longer, reliable performance and full water carrying capacity throughout the life of the system. In addition, there are no dangers of lead leaking into the water to create concerns of possible lead contamination.

Today FGTM piping system is recognized as one of the most reliable source of pure drinking water. USA, Canada, the EU and many other developed countries have plastic piping as their drinking water distribution system.

In Sri Lanka, FlowGuard will be manufactured and marketed under the brand name Phoenix FlowGuard by Phoenix Industries Limited at their manufacturing plant in Makandura.

CEO, Phoenix Industries Limited, Hasith Prematillake said that they were delighted to be associated with an internationally renowned brand such as FlowGuard. “Our products range from rigid plastic packaging, toothbrushes, crates, household ware and furniture all of which incorporate cutting edge design features.” The Company is also committed to environmentally friendly production practices which are demonstrated in the regular recovery of non useable and damaged goods for recycling and conversion in their factory, which has won them the bronze award for energy efficiency.

'This latest addition to our product line, Phoenix FlowGuard, demonstrates our commitment to our customers to provide quality goods on par with international standards and trends. The latest technology in piping is CPVC and the globally preferred brand is FlowGuard, and we are here to bring it to the doorstep of Sri Lankan consumers,'he said.
