Engineering faculty for South Eastern University soon

Measures are in place to establish an engineering faculty in the
South Eastern University in the near future. It has developed quickly
and will come forward as a first class university in the country after
developing its physical resources, Higher Education Minister S B
Dissanayake said. The minister was addressing the seventh convocation of
the South Eastern University at the university premises on Saturday.
Four hundred and twenty degrees including 256 General Degrees, 51
Special Degrees, 58 Science Degrees, 51 Special Business Administration
Degrees and five Special Commerce Degrees were awarded by the minister.
“Unity among Sinhala,Tamil and Muslim students in the South Eastern
University is highly appreciated and it is important to the university
to achieve its goals as set out by the government,” the minister added.
“Under the leadership of President Mahinda Rajapaksa, the government
has allocated a large sum of money for the development of education. The
government has taken measures to increase the amount of funds allocated
annually for the education sector. Therefore, we can now spend more
money for the development of the country's university system, ” Minister
Dissanayake said.
Developing skills among university students has become a timely need
with the development of the education system in the country. It will
train students how to deal with local and international environments,
Higher Education Ministry Secretary Dr Sunil Jayantha Nawarathne said.
He added that students should be able to adapt to any environment
especially when they start a new job. This will help them move forward
in their careers. Local Government and Provincial Councils Minister A L
M Athaulla, South Eastern University Chancellor Achi Mohomed Ishak, Vice
Chancellor S M M Ismail and a number of guests participated. |
