building at Sethsiripaya as a part of the government’s programme to turn Sri Jayawardenapura - Kotte into the
country’s administrative capital. Here, the President is received by Urban Development Authority chairman Nimal
Perera. Western Province Governor Alavi Mowlana, Senior Ministers Athauda Seneviratne, A.H.M. Fowzie, Ministers Dinesh Gunawardene, Bandula Gunawardene, C.B. The Security Forces are playing a pivotal role in the reconstruction of war-affected infrastructure, resettlement of thousands of civilians displaced by LTTE terrorists and reintegration of ex-combatants into society with the goal of promoting reconciliation. Laws to be strengthened to arrest situation

The government acting on President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s directives has decided to take immediate action to arrest the stealing of artefacts which has proliferated on a massive scale countrywide as reported in recent times. The government has taken steps to tighten laws relating to the destruction and stealing of artefacts by giving more teeth to the existing laws and regulations governing artefacts and archaeological sites.

Discussions focus on resettlement, reconciliation after terrorism defeat

External Affairs Minister Prof G L Peiris met top US National Security and trade officials on Thursday to build on the long-standing US-Sri Lankan ties, emphasising how economic development has helped sustain peace and build prosperity after the defeat of terrorism three years ago. Minister Peiris had a cordial meeting with a special assistant to US President Barack Obama, Samantha Power, senior director of Multilateral Affairs on the staff of the National Security Council (NSC) Michael Newbill.
