41st Railway Employees Union AGM:
'Union leaders should tread on correct path'
"Trade Union leaders should tread on the correct path and set an
example to their general membership," Transport Minister Kumara Welgama
said.

He said certain trade union leaders had neglected their duties and
representatives and resorted to various conspiracies to incite trade
union action by criticizing the government. The minister was addressing
the 41st AGM of the SLFP oriented Railway Employees Union held at the
Railway Department Headquarters recently.
Minister Welgama said certain trade union leaders were flattering
about rebuilding the nation without even being legally released from
their institutions to engage in trade union activities. Trade Union
leaders should make it a point to act in a manner that would not cause
any inconvenience to the public.
Transport Deputy Minister Rohana Dissanayake said Trade Unions have
made an enormous contribution to bring the present government to power.
The Railway staff should render their unstinted support and co-operation
to the minister and the Railway's management to run an efficient
service.
Parliamentarian Ranjith Zoysa, General Manager of Railways B A P
Ariyaratne and Private Secretary to the Minister Pradeepika Welgama were
also present.
Officer-bearers for the current year were elected unanimously.
Western Province Governor Alavi Mowlana was elected President and
Nadeera Manoj was re-elected as Secretary. |
