Yang Xiuping the Chinese Ambassador bids farewell to
Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne before leaving the island on
completion of her term of duty in Sri Lanka.

The meeting took place at Visumpaya, the official residence of the Prime Minister who hosted a dinner in honour of the envoy. Before leaving Visumpaya, the ambassador said she was able to bring diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and China to a high level.

China's aim is to see that Sri Lanka attained a high level of development, she said.

Sri Lanka is a very beautiful country and the honesty and politeness of its people could never be forgotten, added the ambassador.

While recalling with respect the cooperation extended by the President and the Prime Minister in carrying out her duties, leaving Sri Lanka was a very sad incident, she said.

The Prime Minister said the tenure of Yang Xiuping as ambassador had been exemplary and her dedication has helped elevate China-Sri Lanka relations to an unprecedented level.
