Salute to the farmers - Agriculture Minister

Agriculture Minister Mahinda Yapa Abeywardane in his May Day message said as follows:

‘Civilization was built on the strength of labour. The contribution of labour including that of the farmers and workers created civilization. On this day I take the opportunity to salute the workers and farmers who worked together to celebrate May Day.

‘When the whole world is experiencing a challenge the importance we place on the services of the farmer and worker is high. With the world economic crises, climate change and energy crises, farmers’ and workers’ contribution is most valuable. I believe it is necessary to give legitimate rights to them. ‘With mechanization more opportunities were created in the world for labour contribution. Since the beginning of civilization much value was placed on the farmer’s service.

‘Sri Lanka being an agriculture based economy we pay our sincere gratitude to the farmers. and value the service of the farming community.’
