Special traffic plan for May Day
A special traffic plan will be in operation today
for the May Day celebrations in Colombo and several other cities. A
police strength of 10,000 officers in uniform and in mufti will also
be deployed to maintain law and order in the cities and venues of
May Day celebrations, the Police Public Relations Unit said.

Cannabis plants worth Rs. five m seized
The Police Special Task Force raided a cannabis
chena in Thanamalwila and seized plants worth Rs five million.
Officers attached to the Suriyawewa Special Task Force Camp led by
IP Abayasinghe raided and seized 7000 cannabis plants around seven
and half feet tall.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday declared
the month starting from April 30 to May 30 as the War Heroes
Commemoration Month to honour thousands of Security Forces personnel
who laid down their lives for the protection of the country's
territorial integrity and sovereignty.
