All set for May Day ceremonies
The working class in Sri Lanka affiliated to
various political parties and trade unions will parade the streets
today chanting their assortment of slogans and letting out steam
along with their counterparts across the world marking International
Labour Day, commonly known as May Day.

JVP petition against bus fare hike dismissed
The Supreme Court yesterday dismissed without
cost the petition filed by two JVP members against the recent
private bus fare hike. The Bench constituted of Chief Justice
Shirani Bandaranayake, Justice P.A. Ratnayake and Justice Chandra
Ekanayake. The Bench ruled that the petition has no basis to grant
leave to proceed with the petition. The petitioners are Sumith
Passaperuma and Sunil Handunetti MP. The respondents are Secretary
Ministry of Private Transport V.Samaraweera ,Minister of Private
Transport C.B.Ratnayake, Transport Ministry Secretary Dhammika
Perera, Transport Minister Kumara Welgama , National Transport
Commission Chairman R.Gunawardana and the Attorney General.
