‘Public expectations high in Police’
Challenges and responsibilities of the Police have increased with the
eradication of terrorism which prevailed in Sri Lanka over the past
three decades. All Police personnel should carry out their duties in a
respectable manner, Defence and Urban Development Ministry Secretary
Gotabhaya Rajapaksa said.
He was addressing the inauguration ceremony of the Siyapath Vila
programme at Ananda College yesterday. Siyapath Vila is a programme to
build a respectable police service. It is a concept of Secretary
Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and carried out under the directions of Inspector
General of Police N. K. Illangakoon.
The police service is a respectable service and the Sri Lankan police
service has a very long and proud history. The responsibility to protect
and maintain law and peace is in the hands of the police, he said.
With time the number of crimes in the country has increased and the
public anticipate a great service with more efficiency, he added.
