Vidyalians gain lead

Moratu Vidyalaya have already gained a first innings lead of 48 runs with two wickets intact at the end of day one in their inter schools under-19 elevation to division one cricket match against St Thomas College, Matale and worked off in Matale.

Batting first Thomians were all out for 140 runs with N G Kennedy making 50 runs with six fours ably supported by L D Madushanka who scored 33 runs. Shanuka Roshan was the most successful bowler for Vidyalians with 4 for 25 and in reply at the end of day's play visitors were in a healthy position with 188 for 8 with Thilan Kanishka unbeaten with 78 runs including eleven fours and useful contribution coming ff the bats of Ishan Peiris 31, Kanishka Prabath 25 and Janitha Samarajeeva 20, L D Madushanka was the pick of the bowlers for Matale Thomians with 5 for 50.

St Thomas' Matale: 140 (N G Kennedy 50, L K Madushanka 33, Dushan Sulakshana 3 for 23, Shanuka Roshan 4 for 25, Taruka Fernando 2 for 6).

Moratu Vidyalaya: 188 for 8 (Thilan Kanishka 78 n.o., Ishan Peiris 31, Janitha Samarajeeva 20, Kanishka Prabath 25).
