Children playing with explosive device escape unhurt
Police took into custody a round-shaped object
believed to be an explosive device without the attachment of a pin
at Kokkawila, Mugunuwatawana, Chilaw recently. A caller, P D Ajith
Wimalasuriya had informed the police that three children aged six,
nine and 10 were playing with an unusual ball picked up by the
children who had found it under a tunnel.
Mulleriyawa killing: suspects further remanded
Sixteen of the 20 suspects who are alleged to
have been involved in the Mulleriyawa shooting incident that caused
the death of Presidential Trade Union Advisor and former Colombo
District Parliamentarian Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra were
yesterday further remanded till February 28, 2012 by Colombo
Additional Magistrate Prasanna Alwis.
Jewellery theft :
Two suspects remanded
Two men who allegedly stole jewellery and
valuables after threatening residents in a house in Handapangoda,
Bandarawatta were remanded until February 22 by Horana magistrate
Mahinda Ranasingha. The suspects are residents of Hingurakgoda and
Handapangoda. The police also seized the stolen jewellery worth Rs
230,000 from a pawning centre in Homagama.
