Ex-LTTE cadres released

A batch of 78 rehabilitated ex-LTTE cadres were handed over to their parents and relatives at a ceremony presided by Rehabilitation and Prison Reforms Minister Chandrasiri Gajadheera, at the Batticaloa Town Hall.

 

More families resettled

[January 20 2012]

About 142 families who left their villages in 1999 due to terrorist activities were resettled in their own lands, said Resettlement Minister Gunarathna Weerakoon. These families have been settled in temporary shelters in Gajabapura and Monaraweva divisional secretariat divisions in Weli Oya.

 

Lotus Tower inauguration

Woman nabbed for alleged matricide

[January 16 2012]

A man who was allegedly assaulted with a broom by his wife, died at hospital while receiving treatment, the Police said. The suspect had attacked her husband with a broom following a dispute, the Police said.

 

Reforestation project to be launched

The Forest Conservation Department has taken steps to undertake a reforestation programme in the Kurunegala District this year. Accordingly, 104 hectares would be cultivated with trees by the Kurunegala District Regional Office of the Forest Conservation Department.

 

Fire at Norochcholai plant

[January 06 2011]

Power generation at the Norochcholai thermal power plant was temporarily suspended due to a sudden fire on Thursday night. Kalpitiya Police conducting investigations said the overheating of one of the coal burners had caused the fire.

Special Pinkama to mark two years of President’s second term

President Mahinda Rajapaksa attended a Bodhi Pooja Pinkama held at the Gangaramaya, Hunupitiya on Thursday to invoke blessings on him, the War Heroes and the country. The Pinkama was held to mark the President's completion of two years of the second term of office following a convincing victory at the 2010 Presidential Election.

Omani Oil and Gas Minister Dr. Mohamed Bin Hamad Al-Rumhi yesterday stated that with a new era of peace and tranquility, Sri Lanka is ready for investors.
