Female extortionists nabbed

Three women suspects who had led an extortion ring and obtained a ransom of Rs 100,000 in two installments from a businessman in Walgama on behalf of an underworld character serving a sentence at the Matara Prison were arrested by officers of the Matara SSPs office and the Thihagoda Police recently following a tip off. Police said, the three suspects had demanded another Rs 100,000 from the same businessman using the name of the underworld character threatening to kill him if he failed to deposit it in a bank account named by them and inform the prison inmate after making the deposit.

The three suspects are held at the Thihagoda police station under detention orders. Investigations are continuing directed by Inspector D. M. Y. Dassanayake and Thihagoda Police OIC Inspector C. T. K. Wijesekera under the supervision of SSP Sumith Edirisinghe.
