
Six injured in explosion
Six persons were seriously injured in a bomb explosion at
Puliyamkulam Maniamedu on last Friday. The bomb was found by a person
while clearing the road at Maniamedu. When he attempted to examine the
bomb it exploded. They have been dispatched to Anuradhapura hospital.
Rs 7.5m for Kayts development
The Kayts Pradeshiya Sabha has allocated Rs 7.5 million in the 2012
budget of the council for development work. Money has been allocated for
Naranthanai library, Kayts vegetable market, rehabilitation of Kayts St
James Community Centre, Analathivu Hindu Cemetery renovation and for
Naranthanai Chettianthiddal and Sooriyawatte road repairs.
Boy knocked down
A 13year boy was knocked down by a private bus at Pannankaddy Marutha
Nagar in Kilinochchi on Saturday. A private bus coming from
Ramanathapuram to Kilinochchi had knocked down the boy and wheels of the
bus had crushed his head.
The deceased is Pakkianathan Lakshan of Marutha Nagar. The driver of
the bus was an unlicensed driver. The Kilinochchi magistrate has
remanded him for 14 days.
Murder suspect caught
The suspect in Neervely double murder who was evading arrest was
arrested by Kopay police while he was hiding in a house at Neervely. The
suspect 45, of Neervely hacked his sister and brother-in-law with an axe
killing them on the spot. He was produced before the Jaffna magistrate
and remanded till January 4.
Medical camp
The Indian Rotary Medical group headed by Dr Mohamed Saberi and 10
others conducted a free medical camp in Kilinochchi.
They examined 130 persons for vision deficiency and issued them free
spectacles. Seventy persons with maimed legs and hands were issued
artificial limbs.
School building opened
EPDP parliamentarian Chandrakumar opened a new building at
Kilinochchi Uruthirapuram Mahavidyalaya built with the financial
assistance of the Japan Nippon Foundation by Seva Lanka Foundation.
Principal of the school Ethaya Sivathasan Meenalogini presided at the
function.
Woman waylaid
A woman who withdrew Rs 100,000 at a bank at Mallakam junction was
waylaid by a youth who came on a bicycle. He had run away in spite of
being chased by the people. |
