Gang nabbed for robberies in K’chi

The Chunnakam Police arrested a five-member gang involved in 17 robberies in the Kilinochchi district. They robbed a house last Tuesday at gunpoint after tying the residents to chairs.

The gang had robbed 66 gold coins valued at Rs 3.3 million, a camera, two mobile phones and Rs 25,000 from this home.

Following interrogation, one member of the robber gang named Sumanan had agreed to show the place where they had hidden the gold coins. After the police accompanied Sumanan to the spot, he had alighted from the police jeep and escaped to the adjoining forest after pushing the policeman, keeping a close watch on him.
