Students participate in Kaprukai-Sipnenai programme

The Coconut Cultivation Board (CCB) on the instructions of Coconut Development and Janatha Estates Development Minister Jagath Pushpakumara will provide two free coconut saplings each to all grade six students of government schools in the Kurunegala District.

This was revealed at the recent Kurunegala District Coordination Committee meeting held at the Kurunegala District Secretariat.

Under this programme named "Kaprukai-Sipnenai" two hybrid quality coconut saplings will be given to each and every grade six students in the Kurunegala District. The students would be provided with necessary know-how to plant the coconut seedlings.

Around 400 special workshops would be arranged for students by the CCB for this purpose this month. Students will be provided the saplings after the workshop.

Regional Manager of the Coconut Cultivation Board in Kuliyapitiya N. A. Alahakoon has already informed all school heads to send him the details of students who wish to obtain free coconut sapling under this programme.

More than 200,000 coconut saplings would be planted in the Kurunegala and Puttalam Districts this year by students to promote the coconut industry, a senior official of the CCB told "Daily News".
