International Children’s Day:

Ministry to issue stamp, flag

The Child Development and Women’s Affairs Ministry will issue a Children’s Day memorial stamp and a flag to mark International Children’s Day.

The ministry will also introduce a national flag and a national anthem for children, an official said.

The ministry has taken measures to conduct several programmes to celebrate Children’s Day under the theme Me Daru Kage Numbage Apage Surakimu Rata Deya Wage.

The National Children’s Day 2011 celebration ceremony, organized by the ministry, will be held at President’s House with the participation of President Mahinda Rajapaksa, First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa, Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne, ministers, secretaries of ministries, ambassadors, principals, teachers and 1,000 children on October 1.

A Children’s Film Festival organized by the ministry will be held at the National Film Corporation film hall until September 30.
