EFC proposes new Workplace Relations Act

The Employers Federation of Ceylon, EFC has proposed to the government to introduce a new Workplace Relations Act and repeal industrial Disputes (Amendment) Act No.56 of 1999. Submitting budget proposals EFC Director General Ravi Peiris said the Employers Federation of Ceylon has consistently pointed out to all stakeholders in employment that recognition of trade unions and collective bargaining and the right to freedom of association cannot be guaranteed by mandatory legislation which is lopsided and favours only one party.

SLTB buys Lanka Ashok Leyland  luxury buses: For the first time in Sri Lanka Ashok Leyland introduced an ultra luxury passenger bus to be used by the Sri Lanka Transport Board. The bus made in India to international standards boasts of having many industry firsts. This includes wheel chair access where the bus could even be lowered to ground level and be tilted sideways to board a wheelchair a through a special sliding door. In addition the bus has its engine at the rear minimizing noise and heat. Another unique feature of this bus which could accommodate around 70 passengers is that it offers a mobile phone charger and a laptop port. The Euro 3 engine is environmental friendly and is the first passenger bus with Auto gears. It also offers a display which provides information to passengers which would be useful for tourists. Ashok Leyland Managing Director Vinod Dasari said they are looking at introducing compressed gas to run the bused in the future. He said they are also offering special easy payment terms to the Sri Lanka Transport Board where they pay monthly for the bus. “We have provided 500 buses to the SLTB and will offer 500 more in the future as the SLTB payment is very satisfactory,” he said. Airtel Lanka takes Fort Station by storm : Bharti Airtel Lanka took Fort Railway Station by storm last Friday with what is termed to be the first ever attempt at a flash mob performed to their catchy new Friends Campaign theme song, Hama Friendama Wedagath Machang. Sung to youthful lyrics to capture the interest of the youth the song is proving to be smash hit with the flash mob video alone generating a magnitude of 10,000 plus views on YouTube and other multi platforms within just three days.
