SAITM Engineering undergraduates take wing to AIT
Come August 31, 2011, the lives of 60 bright young Engineering
students of SAITM will change forever. After successfully completing the
first stage of their degree programmes in various disciplines ranging
from Civil and Infrastructure Engineering to Mechatronics Engineering,
they will take wing to Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand for
the final stage of the BSc. Eng.(Hons) degree spanning two years.

At AIT, located 60 km away from Bangkok, Thailand, the students will
come under a faculty of world renowned academics in an environment of
advanced research laboratories which will provide the ideal backdrop in
moulding world class Engineers. The campus in a 400 acre setting
comprising facilities for cricket, soccer, tennis, basketball, badminton
and a 18 hole golf course and numerous other indoor and outdoor
activities plus ample space for the students to mingle with other
international students. The student union of AIT is always a hive of
activities organizing a host of events including organizing tours to
neighbouring countries such as Malaysia, Burma, Vietnam and China.
Another group who eagerly await the arrival of SAITM first batch of
undergraduates is the AIT Sri Lankan association. This group comprising
more than 50 postgraduate students from Sri Lankan State Universities
organizes a variety of cultural and sporting events at AIT.
At AIT, students will be provided with in-campus hostels at
subsidized fees in fully furnished rooms with attached bathrooms, Wi-Fi
facilities and food courts, banks and medical facilities close by within
the Campus premises.
Along the way, the opportunities the students get will be countless.
Already it is confirmed that the top 20% performers are to get 50% of
AIT tuition fees waived in the form of scholarships.
Further, the students will get opportunities to work part time at AIT
laboratories and the option of entering student exchange programmes
where they will be studying one or two semesters at leading Engineering
Universities in Europe or Asia- Pacific. During the course, students
will also undergo industrial training for six months, a unique
opportunity to get exposed to industry experience at leading
multi-national industrial organizations overseas.
Towards the end of the course, the undergraduates will be exposed to
job fairs, where world renowned organizations will be present to offer
career opportunities in various disciplines, while those students who
wish to follow post graduate studies are guaranteed MSc and PhD
opportunities at AIT and other affiliated Universities in Europe and
