UPFA gets new office in Gampaha
President Mahinda Rajapaksa opened the new United People’s Freedom
Alliance (UPFA) district head office building at Orutota Road, Gampaha
yesterday. The new UPFA office complex constructed according to an
environmental-friendly plan, was carried out on the direction of UPFA
Gampaha district leader, Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa.
President Rajapaksa opened the office at an auspicious time yesterday
morning accompanied by Minister Basil Rajapaksa and others amidst the
chanting of pirith by the Maha Sangha.
Blessings offered by religious dignitaries of all faiths followed as
Gampaha district UPFA activists entered their new abode.
The new all inclusive modern office complex fulfils a long existing
void for a permanent UPFA political headquarters in the district. The
new UPFA district head office building of 9,826 square feet has been
constructed in a one-acre block of land. The main auditorium has seating
arrangements for 180 people while the open air section has facilities to
There are 10 rooms at the lower level and four at the upper level.
Outside the building is a large homegarden full of vegetable crops and
herbal plants with a sprinkler to provide water. Solar power has been
used to provide electricity to the building.
The car park can accommodate 40 vehicles.
Ministers Nimal Siripala de Silva, Mervyn Silva, Anura Priyadarshana
Yapa, Wimal Weerawansa, Mahinda Amaraweera, Johnston Fernando, Felix
Perera, Pavithra Wanniarachchi, C.B. Ratnayake, Athauda Seneviratne,
Pandu Bandaranayake and Lasantha Alagiyawanna, Defence Secretary
Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa, Chief Ministers
and Governors also participated.
